24 hodin OB štafety

History: The experiences of the 24 watch are powerful and should not be forgotten. Send them to us and let's write the history of 24 OB together.

BONUS: Nikola Rafaje's memories of rogaining 1995

Coincidentally, this year's 24-hour event returns to the same date and space of the first European rogaining championship, which took place on 3-4. in June 1995 they organized Les Trois Juniors (Štembi, Vokoun, Raf). With the arrogance appropriate to our age, we named the race the first European championship, where we also attracted foreign runners, and in the end we managed to get together a large participation of local men and women (we consider the Swede Ladislav Matušín to be ours). The attached race number found in the home bin proves that 25 daredevils took part!   Rogaining_1995_cislo

The meeting place was broken into punk in the middle of the U Zmrzlý forest a short distance from Višňová. The centerpiece of the "hash tent" was a cauldron of goulash, the basis of which was created at the Jarovsk dormitory, which reached its destination after being transported by tram, subway and bus.   The 24 hour race was split into 2 parts with a map change in the middle. The start at noon on Saturday sent Rogainists-individuals on a scorelauf on the classic orienteering map Houpaček. Controls were sewn wherever possible, especially as much as possible into the greenery. With the organizers not knowing the rules of rogaining, the first competitors were already returning in the early evening with 35 km in their legs. The midnight start to the second part of the race, which headed to the Kolotoč map, was all the more expected. With prehistoric 2-hour headlamps, we expected everyone to just peek into the woods for an hour, then tuck into their sleeping bags and hit the trail again at dawn. Error. The winner of the race was already known at half past five on Sunday morning, the winner around 9 o'clock.   Rogaining_1995_shromazdiste

Since 1995, Míra Seidl and Iva Brandejsová can be proud of the titles of European champions.   A year later, we managed to hold a real European Championship, when it was all about rogaining with everything (pairs for 24 hours, map 1:25000) on Branžež. The victory was then repeated by Míra Seidl with Finn Iro Kakk.   After a short period of 28 years, I still have to thank and highlight the help of our previously unknown sponsor, Jarek Kořistka, who saved the student organizers from total bankruptcy. He drew the starting numbers and the barrel for us.   Unfortunately, so far only one starting number and one morning photo have been found in the organizers' archives. Until the next 24 hours, all three will have to do some hard research work, dig up maps, results and call up some photos from the films from Praktica.

Petr Hrouda's memory of 1992

24 hours OB 1992 or How the conglomerate experienced them 4 x Tempo + Příro + Bechyně

24 hours of OK orienteering, or orientation run produced by OK, became a reality on the above-mentioned days in the meadow behind the Višňov game park; again after 3 years, such an event took place near Prague, although compared to the one at the time, somewhat more modest, without cabins and Khomeini cups. Let the following talk be dedicated to those with whom I was destined to form one relay for 24 hours - Honz Kučer, Magda Valterová, Petr and Dana Urbanec and Pavlo Hanák, who at the last moment replaced Utínek, who resigned in the twelfth hour. Although everything was not so simple... Hrudnik_2 The last time we left the relay was when she had finally pulled herself together and finally got rid of the worry of whether she would complete the 24 hours with five, four, three or less people.  At two o'clock, the starting shot is fired, and after an hour, Kůča hands it over to Magda, who has no idea that she is chasing quite pointlessly in her section. (But you can read about that in Sosnoviny.) It's a beautiful July afternoon, people are splashing in the water, and everyone feels good in body and soul. But that should change rapidly in a few hours. Hrudnik_3

Hrudnik_4 The moment we start to "temporarily" occupy the fourth place (i.e. until the end), it stops being interesting on these ranks. Equally interesting, it is no longer on the third place, which has been held by the prepaid VŠZ Brno for a long time, some two sections ahead of us. On the other hand, a fight is taking place about two sections ahead of them, which, if there were any spectators, would raise the spectators from their seats... Hrudnik_6 Gazda starts the last section, Štěpánek 10 minutes behind him. Everything seems to be clear, only Bořan, whose lion's share in the gained lead is in no doubt, still refuses congratulations. And really...And the Boss? He catches up five minutes later with an apologetic "Well, it didn't work out"... Hrudnik_7 Sunday morning - it's still raining beautifully and we're settling in the no less beautiful fourth place for a long time. We are still alternately living in the Rybářovice car and our previously described two tents, and Kůča is enjoying the race. Hrudnik_8 The goal is closed, the race is over and we can balance, excuse me, balance: the Brno turn of the already almost lost fight turned out to be caused by the organizer's mistake, and so the winners became lice after all. The ace of the weekend was without a doubt Magda Horová, who came from Prague by bike to run her five sections on Saturday and calmly left again on Sunday afternoon. 24 millimeters of rain fell in 24 hours.  Hrudnik_5 (Taken from the magazine of the section OB Kotlářka Hrudník)

Mirek Fanta's memory of 1989, (Zvánovice, June 10-11)

I was a member of the construction company from 1978 until about 1990, maybe 1992 (I can't remember exactly). Since then I have been running for the Economist. In June 1989, I participated in the organization of the 24-hour OB race in Zvánovice. I was in charge of the presentation and I made a program that we used during the event to prepare ID cards, print intermediate results and the like. The program ran on a PDP 11/34 computer, which was supplied by Jár Vondra from his workplace (Research Institute of Building Materials and Structures). I remember that I arrived at the gathering place in a block, because the race is, after all, a social event.

I am attaching scans of issues 6/89 and 24/89 of the then construction magazine Žaket, where the organization of 24 hours of OB in 1989 is written about. I also found výpis zmiňovaného programu - it's about 30 pages in total. Results in 1989

  1. Vamberk (Vandas, Klapalová, Langr, Rykala, Smutná, Smutný) 24:03:38

  2. Pace (Doležal, Štambergová, Kondrát, Hranička, Špačková, Urbanec) 24:21:18

  3. Luhačovice (Novotný, Kutílková, Hubáček, Švec, Diblíková, Šumbera - 1 section

  4. Brno (Rygl, Sobková, Rachůnek, Pekárek, Váňová, Píša) - 1 section

  5. RDB Opava (Urbánek, Pavelková, Toloch, Pavelek, Klemencová, Hubáček, Jar.) - 2 sections

  6. Ostrava (Mudrák, Vašutová, Binčík, Náhlovský, Hýžová, Hadač - 2 sections A total of 17 relays (only 16 started because the train with the Luhačovice relay was late, so they only started the race from the 3rd section according to the calculated timetable) Evaluation of the race in the words of the winners: *"The space, the meeting place and the organization of the race were perfect. The refreshments and culture were impeccable. Continuous results and information as if from a computer. Comments on the tracks:

    • daytime sections quite satisfactory, night sections quite long
    • challenging terrain and location of controls
    • refreshment stations on longer sections throughout the race Next year we will come to win again!" For the LIŠKA TEAM team  non-running captain František Klapal **

Zdenek Koč's memory of 1982 (Seletice)

Ducks on twenty-four-hour watches

In 1982, a strong generation of teenagers born in 1964 or a little later "matured" in Meteor Kačerov, "my" Kačerov generation was still running H21 (although I myself already belonged to H35 in the first year, Šerák to H40), and it wasn't so long ago that we even progressed from a lower competition to an elite national club competition for one year, if I'm not mistaken, it was then called the 1st League, and we were one of 12 members of this elite society. Although we immediately went down again, history won't ask about that anymore, will it? Information about the prestigious all-day races of the seven- and ten-member Jukola and Tiomilo relays in Scandinavia was already spreading through Czechoslovakia at that time. It was clear that a ten-member team would not be able to put together a few clubs in our country at that time, but some smaller teams would hopefully get together. The idea of six-member teams and 4 sections for each member was born, with the best times in the section around an hour, it could be assumed that the winners would make it around the 24 hours, and the Czech version was born. For us, it meant a definite challenge - we are not "sharpeners" after all, and therefore we cannot ignore this challenge. We put together (when including a number of teenagers) even two men's teams. Unfortunately, the results were not preserved in the club archive, we don't even know the exact line-ups, and only from memories, entries and photos in the chronicle, it can be assumed that in addition to me and my brother Lumír, members were certainly Vojta Soudek, brothers Drábko Vlastík and Roman, Rony Barták with brother Luboš, Jirka Něnička, probably Radek Čermák, probably Zdeněk Šerák, Jarda Bouček and someone else whom I don't remember. Of course, we were not among the favorites, the important thing was that (unlike the current Olympic Games) it was not important to win, but it was important to participate. And in my archive I even found complete maps from Seletic and Zvánovice. In Seletice, I was the second member of the relay in the order, I took over the relay somewhere on the tail of a pack that had already spread out quite a bit, which had completely disappeared in the forest, so it was completely solo (the best ones weren't that much faster than me to catch up with me, moreover, they weren't fast sections, but the subsequent section was run in a completely different part of the forest). In Zvánovice, I was the starter of the relay, and on my second leg (seventh in total) I ran into the night, and I didn't distinguish myself much... The map shows 3 places where I repaired my then amateur-made headlamp several times - estimated loss of around ¾ hour, time on the leg 165 minutes. We certainly ran something like that once more near Těptín in the area of Hornopožárské forest, but unfortunately I don't have a map from there. Does anyone know anything more detailed about Teptín??? Zdenek Koč And on top of that, a piece of visual context...  A memory from the Meteora Kačerov chronicle - a page with photos and a period newspaper clipping. According to the tag under the article (vit), I would say that it was from Mladá fronta, where in those years the editors Šálek and Vitouš, in cooperation with my older brother, devoted themselves to OB more than other newspapers. 24h-Seletice

In the photos are: On the top left, one of the Drábk (I think Honza, has been out of OB for many years) Top right Vojta Soudek (t. SK Technik České Budějovice) Bottom left: me (at the time when I still had hair and my movement in the forest was at least somewhat similar to running - I still have those shorts at the cabin :-) Center right: Pavlína Šturmová (t.k.a. Živcová, KrOB Rozmarýn Litoměřice)   Copy of the article in the OB periodical of my brother "Kočovina"   24OB_1982_clanek

Jéni Šváb's memory of 1982 (Seletice)

The first twenty-four-hour event was organized by Slovan UV ČSTV in Seletice in May 1982, I believe. There should be an article about it in the second issue of Kočovin 1982, author Josef Krch. You can probably get it from Jan Žemlík, he is alive and looking good. I saw him at the Zlín City Cup on Saturday. It was a race between Slavia VŠ Praha and Tesla Brno, which Stavárna was sometimes catching up from behind (Harold's weakness). Karol Hierweg from Farmaceut Bratislava ran first from the first section, but he passed to a certain Šťastný, who ran off into another forest and only came back with the third sections. In the next 22 sections, the University was leading quite closely at times, so that Brňáci caught them in the last section. The last section could have been run by Vlastík Šebesta against Jiří Holas, but it could also have been the other way around :o) or completely different. It's been a long time. Otherwise there were some problems with an intestinal infection. At that time doc. Sage. Kasal, a construction site at the time. Stavarna advised the twenty-four in the pioneer camp near Cerny Voderad or Zvanovice from June 10 to 11, 1989. Luhacovice arrived an hour or two later due to a train delay, their first two or three sections started en masse and only then, based on the set time, were they stopped on the track. It was my idea and I was forced to do the math, perhaps I wasn't too sober. The author of the track was Petr Utinek. When drawing, he thought of interrupted lines for small objects, which was not common at the time. Honza Tojnar was in charge of the most important function, i.e. the beer stand. Unfortunately, because he drank with everyone, he didn't last until dawn and then had to be ignominiously replaced. At the booth, there was a proud inscription: Professor Jan Veit, head of the answer. When Dzony found out, he tore up the sign. On the same day in Blava, lyreist Joan Baezova performed in Bratislavka. At the time, we were supposed to launch the attack into Karel Kryl's loudspeaker, but we gave up after about two books. The tape recordings (probably by Mila Jebave?) were pretty good. I wasn't at the twenty-four that made OKP. We mostly went to see Ekonom with Honza Tojnar, we didn't race, we just came back from somewhere in the Dolomites or something. I don't remember anything, I was into beer, if there was any beer at all.
